Blog Journal #7
The class pages for Pattie Elementary School are small, simply designed, and all link to a video of some kind that is designed to introduce the incoming students to their teacher. The main welcome page also features their school list of items that each student is expected to bring, and a list of wanted items if any parents have things they are willing to donate on that list as well! Alongside a translation in Spanish for any non-native English speakers so that they can know what to bring too! A couple of the teachers have their email or Twitter that the parents can contact them at, while the others seem to want to wait to share that information until the child is officially enrolled in the class so they don't get any spam notifications.
To effectively get all of my duties done and establish easy, open communication I will likely use ClassDojo. ClassDojo is an educational technology company that not only allows for communication between parents and teachers, but also allows for lessons to be uploaded and viewed at later times for both parents and teachers to view at their discretion. ClassDojo also allows for messages to be translated into over 35 different languages from around the world! It will help with easy communication, better transparency about what is being taught, and allow for students that may miss days being able to stay on track easier than if ClassDojo wasn't an potion.
Working on the Canvas Group assignment was doable, but a bit frustrating. There was no easy way to communicate quickly without a secondary resource, and the layout could be a bit finicky at times. I did like that it wasn't too terribly difficult to figure out how to do what I wanted while editing everything, but at the same time some functions just seemed to not want to function at all. I much preferred Canva, because while it may pose the same problem of no easy way to directly communicate with the group members, it was far easier to navigate, and everything that I want to accomplish can be easily done with no real fighting on my end to get it to cooperate with me.
