Professional Development

I found a resource for professional development for teachers that includes resources like help with overcoming barriers, instructional excellence, and leadership! It can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/2hfk9wxs

My experiences with distance learning in K-12 were mostly limited to Zoom and Canvas, besides the two classes that I took online in middle school. They were pretty effective, and allowed me to get my work done relatively well, at least Zoom and Canvas have. In my experience the less said about the online schooling, the better. The only experience that I have has with a PowerPoint for distance learning was thein we did for this class that is beyond the K-12 level, but I would not mind doing another one or seeing more of them in the future! I enjoy the fact that it caters to all learning types by providing images, sound, and text that can be read by the students.     Open educational resources (OERs) are schooling resources that allow students access to a wide variety of information on different subjects that they can find and learn about at their own pace. They are made to be a stand alone way to learn, and are available online, so almost anybody can access...

While working on our web design project I got to incorporate some of the skills that we were introduced to like color-coordination and contrast, and repetition within the color scheme and alignment of the text and text fonts. The color coordination was mostly found in the headers for each section that we kept the same golden color form FSU's color pallet, something that contrasts nicely with the plain black text that was used in the rest of the website. Again, the repetition is mostly found in the similar colors that we used and in the fonts that remained the same across all of the different pages we created. I mostly see myself using these skills to create appealing newsletters for parents or little posters for advertisement for school events around campus, otherwise they will be used for making a little 'about me' page that new students and their parents can read to get to know a bit more about me before they meet me in person for the first time.     QR ...

The class pages for Pattie Elementary School  are small, simply designed, and all link to a video of some kind that is designed to introduce the incoming students to their teacher. The main welcome page also features their school list of items that each student is expected to bring, and a list of wanted items if any parents have things they are willing to donate on that list as well! Alongside a translation in Spanish for any non-native English speakers so that they can know what to bring too! A couple of the teachers have their email or Twitter that the parents can contact them at, while the others seem to want to wait to share that information until the child is officially enrolled in the class so they don't get any spam notifications.     To effectively get all of my duties done and establish easy, open communication I will likely use ClassDojo. ClassDojo is an educational technology company that not only allows for communication between parents and...

Blogging is a new (to me), interesting way to share thoughts and feelings. I  like that I can ramble on about all of my thoughts without anybody telling me to shut up or getting annoyed at my thoughts and opinions. If someone doesn't want to hear them, they just stop reading, and I like the freedom of voicing what I believe matters. I'm not a huge fan of having to manually type what I'm thinking, but it's not as bad as it could be, so I don't have much to complain about. I have learned that nobody interacts with my blog, likely because I don't interact with anyone else's but my point still stands. Blogging is not as active of a site as it used to be in its prime.     I will most definitely use YouTube as web 2.0 tool in my classroom! I could easily create educational videos for my students, and they can communicate in the comments amongst themselves, as well as being able to ask me for help with anything the find too confusing. I also love the fact t...

My past experiences using social media as a part of my personal learning network were mostly used to further my hobbies and/or special interests and hyper-fixations. I would use Instagram to find cute cheap or free crochet patterns, YouTube for tutorials or documentaries, and Pinterest for design ideas! It was something that I did subconsciously, but something that provided excellent results. Now I find myself interacting more often with teacher accounts online, or people who have similar ideas or hobbies to me. I find interacting with other experienced teachers to be especially rewarding to me. I love seeing how they make a difference, and knowing that I'm going to do that too one day. I also enjoy hearing stories of how things can go wrong or unexpectedly because it reminds me that at the end of the day we're all human and we can all make mistakes. It's comforting to me.     The digital divide is something that I am very familiar with, having been on bot...

One of the Florida Standards that I found was one that expects us to, "identify appropriate technology to achieve a project goal" or in layman's terms, pick and choose which form of technology would be helpful to complete a project or assignment. It's basically telling teachers that they are expected to be able to teach students how to choose between different types of technology to help them, whether that's a Google search, looking up a tutorial video, or even a list of steps to take to achieve a goal. I feel pretty prepared to be able to teach this to children in classrooms, as it largely depends on both how the child learns best and on what they are trying to look up. I feel that that is something that I can easily help them with, especially considering the young age I intend to teach.     When looking at the Florida Standards for kindergarten music, I found 6 different resources, which while not as plentiful as some of the others, provide different idea...
