My experiences with distance learning in K-12 were mostly limited to Zoom and Canvas, besides the two classes that I took online in middle school. They were pretty effective, and allowed me to get my work done relatively well, at least Zoom and Canvas have. In my experience the less said about the online schooling, the better. The only experience that I have has with a PowerPoint for distance learning was thein we did for this class that is beyond the K-12 level, but I would not mind doing another one or seeing more of them in the future! I enjoy the fact that it caters to all learning types by providing images, sound, and text that can be read by the students.
Open educational resources (OERs) are schooling resources that allow students access to a wide variety of information on different subjects that they can find and learn about at their own pace. They are made to be a stand alone way to learn, and are available online, so almost anybody can access them, but there are cons to these pros as well. The University of Maryland Library finds that as these resources are online they can be accessed, and often edited by almost anybody, providing information that may not be correct or relevant to what is trying to be learned. Not to mention the pain and effort that schools would have to go through if these were widely implemented of double-checking all of the copyrights for all of the different works. All of this for students to not even need to come to school anymore as they can learn about it online, as OERs are made to be stand-alone learning resources, not supplemental ones.
I actually loved working on the assignment 4 PowerPoint! I found it fun to find all of the pictures and assembling them into informational slides and then messing about with the transitions and animations were just extra bonuses for me! My greatest frustration for me would likely be that I had to click on the slide before I could add the transition or animation, and that took me way too long, and so many failed attempts before I just ended up asking my mom in the end. I did get it done though, and had fun doing it too! I think next time I'm going to try for even more little pictures, like in place of plain buttons! I think it could be really fun to play around with!
